SC GOP Chairman says state deserves answers on stimulus spending

CM Capture 2FLOYD PRAISES US REP. WILSON, STATE SEN. MULVANEY FOR DEMANDING ACCOUNTABILITY

Columbia, SC – November 19, 2009 – South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Karen Floyd today issued the following statement on U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson and state Sen. Mick Mulvaney’s individual efforts to get to the bottom of the unaccounted-for stimulus spending in South Carolina.

The White House’s Web site is reporting nearly $41 million being spent in Congressional Districts that don’t exist in South Carolina, prompting Rep. Wilson to call for an audit of the stimulus spending, and for Republican Senator Mulvaney to demand answers from Democratic Congressman John Spratt, a key Obama ally, who Mulvaney is challenging for his Congressional seat.

“Our Republican Congressional delegation was united in its opposition to the stimulus spending, because they knew it would only put us further into debt without creating jobs,” Floyd said. “Conservatives across our state should thank strong Republicans like Joe and Mick for their efforts to hold the federal government accountable for this spending.”
