MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski to join co-host Joe Scarborough to moderate Charleston debate

Columbia, SC – January 18, 2010 – The South Carolina Republican Party today announced that Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” will join former Congressman Joe Scarborough in moderating the Republican gubernatorial debate on January 28th in Charleston.

Brzezinski will also speak at a lunch earlier in the day being done in conjunction with the debate to honor current and former Republican First Ladies of South Carolina, who will all be present at the event. They include Mrs. Jenny Sanford, Mrs. Mary Wood Beasley, Mrs. Iris Campbell, and Mrs. Anne Edwards.

Scarborough and Brzezinski, known to fans as “Joe and Mika,” will also be broadcasting “Morning Joe” live from Charleston on the morning of the 28th.

“Having Joe and Mika’s participation in these events is a great way to spotlight our Party, our candidates, our state, and Charleston,” South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Karen Floyd said. “This day will be an incredible kick off to the campaign season for the South Carolina Republican Party. We are proud of our candidates and their consistent emphasis on lowering taxes, slowing government growth, and promoting individual freedom. This debate will help highlight the principles we are all about as a Party.”

The First Ladies Lunch and the debate are part of a day of events put on by the South Carolina Republican Party, aimed at showcasing and supporting Republican candidates.

The day’s schedule is as follows:

– 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. – First Ladies’ Lunch – Memminger Auditorium

– 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. – Charleston GOP Reception for 1st District Candidates – Tristan Restaurant

– 8:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. – Gubernatorial Debate – Memminger Auditorium

– Receptions will also be held before and after the debate at Memminger.
