Karl Rove to headline Silver Elephant Dinner

Straw poll to be held

Columbia, SC – April 15, 2010 – Famed Republican strategist, author, and former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove will be the keynote speaker at the South Carolina Republican Party’s 43rd Annual Silver Elephant Dinner.

During the Silver Elephant, the SCGOP will also be conducting a “straw poll” among attendees to gauge their preference for each of the six statewide constitutional offices with a primary – Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Treasurer, Comptroller General, and Superintendent of Education.

Rove, nicknamed “The Architect,” has a long history of running winning races for Republicans, most notably President George W. Bush. Signed copies of Rove’s recent book, “Courage and Consequence,” will be available at the event.

SCGOP Chairman Karen Floyd said that even though there is a clear conservative tide rising in our country right now, Republicans all over must employ winning strategies to get our message out, to take advantage of Democratic mistakes, and to ultimately win in November.

“It is an incredible win for our Party to have Mr. Rove and speak to us, and we are all eager to hear what he has to say,” Floyd said. “Karl Rove is someone who knows how to win in any electoral environment, and even though the country is clearly moving in a more conservative direction now, we cannot afford to be complacent. This is going to be a great event, and we are encouraging all of our Party faithful to not only come hear what Mr. Rove has to say, but to participate in our straw poll as well.”

Media are invited to attend the event, but must RSVP in advance, and bring news outlet issued or Press Association issued credentials on the night of the event.
