SCGOP Vice Chairwoman Lin Bennett condemns attacks on women by Dick Harpootlian and national Democrats
Columbia, S.C.- South Carolina Republican Party First Vice Chairwoman Lin Bennett today released a statement following attacks on women by S.C. Democratic Party Chairman Dick Harpootlian and national Democrats:
“Last week, S.C. Democratic Party Chairman and Barack Obama’s National Finance Committee member Dick Harpootlian compared South Carolina’s first female governor to Snooki and the Kardashians.
“Now, national Democratic Party strategist Hilary Rosen says Ann Romney, mother of five, ‘has actually never worked a day in her life.’ Women are fed up with these incredibly sexist, demeaning attacks. While Republicans support strong female leaders like Nikki Haley and Ann Romney, out of touch Democrats continue to show their true colors by waging war on women.”
Background
(1) South Carolina Democrats Miss Memo About Not Attacking Women. “Did someone forget to send South Carolina Democrats the day’s strategic memo regarding gender politics? Led by Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the party on Thursday was working hard in TV appearances and at other events to press a view of the GOP as out of touch with women, hyper-focused on cultural issues, and facing a significant gender gap. But in the Palmetto State, Democrats seemed to be reading from a different page. Maybe the wrong book entirely. They were spending the day poking fun at their GOP governor, Nikki Haley, by likening her to overexposed Jersey Shore star Snooki, or a celebutante Kardashian sibling”-(Billy House, “Whose ‘War on Women’?” National Journal, 4/5/12)

(2) Democratic Strategist Hilary Rosen generated instant bipartisan criticism Wednesday night for her statement that Ann Romney has “actually never worked a day in her life.” The reaction on Twitter from high level politicos was instant and virtually unanimous: Rosen had gone too far.
