Press Release: 2016 candidate filing closes, S.C. Republican Party again fields most candidates

Columbia, S.C. – Candidate filing for this year’s June 14 primary and November 8 general elections closed at 12:00 noon today. The South Carolina Republican Party by far fielded the most candidates of any political party, with 526 of the 1,007 total candidates. The Democrats fielded 446 candidates. The S.C. Republican Party also fielded candidates in each of the state’s seven Congressional Districts.

“We are honored that hundreds of South Carolina citizens have stepped forward to serve as Republicans. With their leadership, our party’s future is strong and secure,” said SCGOP Chairman Matt Moore.

“Led by U.S. Senator Tim Scott, this year’s South Carolina Republican candidates are committed to taking our state to even greater prosperity.”
