Election integrity matters regardless of candidate or outcome

(Columbia, S.C.) – After several problems at the polls during the Columbia’s mayor’s race yesterday, the State Election Commission ordered a hand count audit. See below for SCGOP Chairman Drew McKissick’s full statement:

“The South Carolina Election Commission’s interim director hit the nail on the head when he said, ‘Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong in Richland County.’ There’s no excuse for all the problems voters experienced at the polls.

“It should be easy to vote and hard to cheat. The South Carolina Republican Party has been leading the charge to defend election integrity and our position is no different in a nonpartisan, local race than it is during presidential years. All voters and all candidates deserve to have a reliable, transparent process and we’re happy to observe the recount today.”
