House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy is 55th Silver Elephant Gala Guest Speaker
(Columbia, S.C.) – On Friday, July 29, the South Carolina Republican Party is hosting its 55th Annual Silver Elephant Gala, the longest standing Republican event in state history, with House Republican Leader and potential future Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy as the guest speaker.
“Leader Kevin McCarthy is an aggressive advocate for our Party and our conservative candidates,” said SCGOP Chairman Drew McKissick. “We can’t wait to welcome him to the Palmetto State, rally behind our shared principles, and get ready to beat Democrats and retire Nancy Pelosi this November.”
The Silver Elephant Gala is a members only event.
About House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23):
Congressman Kevin McCarthy, a fourth-generation Kern County resident, represents the 23rd District of California in Congress, and currently serves as House Republican Leader. The grandson of a cattle rancher and the son of a firefighter, Kevin grew up in a working class family in Bakersfield. He opened a small business, Kevin O’s Deli, before his 21st birthday. Starting a small business gave him first-hand experience with the difficulties that entrepreneurs face as a result of burdensome regulations and onerous taxes. Kevin realized with less regulations and lower taxes, American small businesses could flourish and generate more jobs.
Selling his business allowed Kevin to complete his college education at California State University in Bakersfield, and in 2000, he won his first election as Trustee to the Kern Community College District. In 2002, Kevin was elected to represent the 32nd Assembly District in the California State Assembly. As a freshman legislator, he was elected unanimously by his colleagues to serve as the Assembly Republican Leader, becoming the first freshman legislator to assume the top post.
After he was elected to Congress in 2006, Kevin quickly became Chief Deputy Whip and later served as Majority Whip. In 2014, he was elected Republican Leader in the House. As Republican Leader, Kevin has a unique ability to bring people together to solve problems and deliver meaningful results. Throughout his office, there is a mantra: have the wisdom to listen and the courage to lead.
Congressman McCarthy was born in Bakersfield, California. McCarthy holds both a Bachelor’s Degree and Masters in Business Administration from California State University, Bakersfield. McCarthy and his wife, Judy, have two children, Connor and Meghan, and reside in Bakersfield.
