Representative Cathy Harvin Will be Missed

Over the weekend, the South Carolina General Assembly lost one of its warmest and most highly respected members, Representative Cathy Harvin, who passed away this last Saturday from complications due to breast cancer.

On both sides of the aisle, Rep. Harvin, D-Clarendon, was known among her colleagues as being spirited, loving and excessively kind. In early 2006, she won the seat her late husband, Alex Harvin, had held for nearly 30 years until he died. She took up where he left off and fervently worked to build and pass legislation that she believed would help the people of South Carolina.

One of Rep. Harvin’s goals was to gain funding for a program called the Best Chance Network, which would provide free breast and cervical-cancer screening to underserved women.

We are deeply saddened by this tremendous loss to our state. Rep. Harvin always had the best interests of South Carolinians in mind, which was known by everyone who had the great pleasure of working with her. Her alacrity and professional demeanor will certainly be missed at the State House.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1:00pm at the Cultural Arts Center in Summerton. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Harvin family, who all need your support in this time of need.

Representative Cathy Harvin, South Carolina will miss you. We will strive to continue your great work and make you smile.

Sincerely,

Karen Floyd
SCGOP Chairman
