Beaufort County Resolution Regarding the 1st Amendment to the Constitution

This below resolution was passed at the Beaufort county convention, and will now go to the resolutions committee. If the resolutions committee passes it, the resolution will be up for a vote at the state convention. However, before the resolutions committee votes, they want to know your opinion. Whereas, The 1st Amendment to the Constitution states: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

Whereas, Many radical Muslims advocate, promote, support, tolerate, threaten, and/or practice various forms of violence, brutality, hostility, jihad, and/or terrorism towards others.

Whereas, There are other members of the Islamic faith who fail or refuse to publicly denounce, reject, or otherwise disassociate themselves from any and all perpetrators and supporters of such radical violence, brutality, hostility, jihad or terrorism towards others.

RESOLVED: That steps should be taken by appropriate legislation or constitutional amendment to ensure that the protections of the 1st Amendment shall not be extended to any group, denomination, nationality, faith or other organization claiming religious attributes or affiliation protected by the 1st amendment should it or its members advocate, promote, support, tolerate, threaten, or practice any form of violence, brutality, hostility, jihad, or terrorism towards others; and/or fail or refuse to publicly denounce, reject, or otherwise disassociate themselves from any and all perpetrators and supporters of such violence, brutality, hostility, jihad or terrorism.
