Columbia, S.C. – SCGOP Chairman Matt Moore today called on S.C. Democratic Party Chairman Jaime Harrison and party leader/gubernatorial candidate Vincent Sheheen to renounce yesterday’s attack on U.S. Senator Tim Scott by William Barber II. Barber’s remarks were delivered in downtown Columbia, South Carolina.
Barber is well known for organizing the “Moral Monday” protests at the North Carolina Statehouse. According to The State, Barber said, “A ventriloquist can always find a good dummy…The extreme right wing down here…finds a black guy (Tim Scott) to be senator and claims he’s the first black senator since Reconstruction and then he goes to Washington, D.C., and articulates the agenda of the Tea Party.”
“I call on Chairman Harrison and Senator Sheheen to immediately renounce this disgusting attack on Senator Tim Scott. Their silence implies approval,” said Chairman Moore. “Liberal Democrats like William Barber who preach tolerance only when it fits their radical ideology deserve no place in the public arena.”
