Charlotte Observer – A few hours before Donald Trump addressed conservative Christians at the annual Values Voter Summit in Washington on Friday, Sen. Tim Scott told them that a vote for the Republican nominee is a vote for “hope.”

Clinton: Half of Trump supporters fall into ‘basket of deplorables’

WIS – With Labor Day behind them, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are pushing ahead in top presidential battlegrounds in the South. Trump, the Republican nominee, is set to campaign in Virginia and North Carolina on Tuesday, two critical states in his path to the presidency.

Donald Trump leads Hillary Clinton by 19 points among military, veteran voters

Washington Times – Donald Trump has a 19-point lead over Hillary Clinton among military and veteran voters, according to polling released Wednesday.  Mr. Trump had a 19-point, 55 percent to 36 percent lead over Mrs. Clinton in the NBC News/SurveyMonkey online poll.

2018 governor’s race starts to loom large after November. So who’s going to run?

The Post and Courier – Republican-leaning South Carolina probably won’t be a major factor in the presidential race, so attention is turning to the 2018 campaign for governor. Incumbent Nikki Haley is constitutionally prevented from seeking a third term, but lots of Republicans are jockeying to succeed her, even with the filing period still 18 months away.

Florence voters hear political professors, party leaders at forum

SCNOW – South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Matt Moore said the American political system isn’t set up to be easy on all fronts; it’s about compromise. “This year our South Carolina government has found a way to address roads without raising the gas tax, done things like the concealed carry reciprocity law and shortened the legislation session, so I’m satisfied with how things are going on a state level,” he said.
