South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Drew McKissick’s Statement on the 75th Anniversary of D-Day
Columbia, SC. – South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Drew McKissick released the following statement on the 75th Anniversary of D-Day:
“75 years ago today, more than 156,000 Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy to confront evil and liberate an entire continent. D-Day was the turning point of the war in Europe and we must always remember the sacrifices of those who paid the ultimate price to save freedom and civilization. I encourage all South Carolinians to take some time today to honor the bravery that our forces and allies exhibited in northern France 75 years ago.”
General Eisenhower said it best when speaking to soldiers on the eve of the landings:
“You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on the other fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.”
We thank God for the Greatest Generation and for all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice on the beaches of Normandy. Their sacrifice and service saved freedom and democracy for civilization, and we will never forget.
