2024 Election Highlights for SC Republicans
(Columbia, S.C.) – In the 2024 election, South Carolina Republicans won big with historic victories across the state holding our supermajority in the House with 1 pickup, gaining a supermajority in the Senate with 4 flips, gaining 13 county council seats, and several other local down-ballot flips.
The SCGOP’s Victory Program focused on coordinating with our candidates, our House and Senate Republican Caucuses, and local county party organizations to leverage our resources, and take maximum advantage of the Presidential election cycle.
Since September, the Party made 70,000 phone calls, sent over 240,000 text messages, sent over 600,000 pieces of mail, hosted Poll Watch trainings for hundreds of poll watchers, and sent over 20,000 hand-written postcards for candidates in pivotal races across the state. On Facebook, we reached over 268,000 new impressions, over 123,000 new page visits, and nearly 2,000 new page followers.
“Wins like this don’t just happen by themselves. They happen when you have an enthusiastic and energized base of support. Our volunteers, grassroots activists, voters, and State Party Staff had the kind of enthusiasm that you can’t put a price tag on, and the Democrats simply couldn’t compete with,” said SCGOP Chairman Drew McKissick.
A great deal of our success is attributed to voters who support our party by voting a straight-Republican ticket. Republicans beat Democrats on the straight ticket vote by 21 points. Roughly 1.2 million people voted straight ticket, with 772,625 being Republican. Almost 53% of all Republican votes were cast straight ticket.
In 2016, Republicans beat Democrats on straight-ticket voting for the first time in state history by 2.5 points. In 2018, Republicans beat Democrats on straight-ticket by eight points. In 2020, Republicans beat Democrats on straight-ticket by 17 points. In 2022, Republicans beat Democrats on straight-ticket by 27 points.
