Columbia, SC – December 22, 2009 – Rep. Jim Clyburn’s reputation for spreading around Congressional earmarks is legendary. Now, he’s taking it one step further by sending pork all the way to California.
Clyburn intended to earmark $100,000 for a library in Jamestown, South Carolina. But through an inexcusable lack of due diligence on his and the rest of the Democratically-controlled Congress’ part, the earmark instead was sent to Jamestown, California.
Incidentally, the town the money was sent to doesn’t have a library, and the library in South Carolina that requested the money actually only asked for $50,000, not $100,000.
“There are so many things wrong with this story it’s hard to know where to begin, but it’s crystal clear that not only are the Democrats in Congress robbing from future generations by spending money we don’t have, but they are flat out incompetent to boot,” South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Karen Floyd said. “Democrats are spending with reckless abandon, they are not even reading the laws that they pass, and they are apparently not even listening to those who request the earmarks, since what was allocated was double the original request.
“Most people in the private sector would be fired over a $100,000 mistake, but it’s all in a day’s work for Jim Clyburn,” Floyd said.
