Florence Resolution: SC Voter ID
This below resolution was passed at the Florence county convention, and will now go to the resolutions committee. If the resolutions committee passes it, the resolution will be up for a vote at the state convention. However, before the resolutions committee votes, they want to know your opinion. Whereas Republicans believe that a person’s right to vote is one of the most valuable liberties that American’s have; and
Whereas Republicans believe in fair and honest elections; and
Whereas Republicans believe that we should have an Election holiday and that elections should be held on that day, not before and not after; and
Whereas South Carolina Republicans believe that Identification provided by the voter at the polls is the only way to guarantee elections are honest and fair; and
Therefore, be it resolved that the Florence County Republican Party supports the South Carolina General Assembly in adoption of a law which would require any person who presents himself to vote to produce a valid and unaltered: SC driver’s license; or other form of identification containing a photograph issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles; or a passport; or a military identification containing a photograph issued by the federal government; an employee identification card containing a photograph of the voter, which is issued by the federal government, this State, or a county or municipality of this State; or a South Carolina voter registration card containing a photograph of the voter. The only exception allowed is for mailed in absentee voting; and
Be it furthermore resolved that the Florence County Republican Party supports the ratification of a law to be passed by the South Carolina General assembly which allows poll watchers to locate directly behind the poll workers responsible for voter identification; and
Be it further resolved, the Florence County Republican Party shall not support the legislature passing any law which alters any other provisions of current law; and
Be it further resolved, the Florence County Republican Party specifically shall not support any bill which allows any new reasons to vote earlier than election day; and
Be it further resolved that all members of the South Carolina General Assembly, are hereby requested to vote in favor of any law or resolution, as the case may be, which follows the guidelines above.
