Happy 4th of July from the SCGOP
Happy 4th of July from the SCGOP! Across our country, “We the People” come together to celebrate our nation’s birthday. In 1776, after signing the Declaration of Independence, John Adams wrote to his wife Abigail that this act should long be celebrated with great fanfare.
“I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.” – John Adams, July 1776
As we gather with friends and family to celebrate Independence Day, we also celebrate the freedoms and liberties that this country is founded on. May God bless all who serve to ensure these ideals endure. We wish everyone a happy and safe holiday!
