Last Democrat on Dorchester County Council switches to the Republican Party

(St. George, S.C.) – SCGOP Chairman Drew McKissick released the following statement regarding Harriet Holman, the last Democrat on Dorchester County Council, switching to the Republican Party.

“After a year of Joe Biden in the White House and a Democrat controlled Congress, it’s no surprise more and more people are switching to the Republican Party. Between sky high inflation, multiple foreign policy disasters, a surge at our southern border, and a spike in crime, we’ve seen the failures and crises caused by Democrat leadership on full display,” said SCGOP Chairman Drew McKissick. “We’re excited to welcome Harriet to the Republican Party. We look forward to working together to continue supporting our communities and empowering individuals through our conservative values.”

Harriet has served on Dorchester County Council since 2019. After thirty years of service, she retired from the U.S. Army in 2010 as Lieutenant Colonel. Harriet is a graduate of Jackson State University and received her MBA from Claflin University. She’s an active member in her church and community.

For the first time, Dorchester County Council now has a full Republican council and all Republican county elected offices.

Since 2018, four Democrats holding county office have switched to the Republican Party, in Abbeville County, Lancaster County, Darlington County, and now Dorchester County.
