Radical State Representative Krystle Matthews should resign

(Columbia, S.C.) – In a recently published audio recording, radical Democrat State Representative and candidate for U.S. Senate Krystle Matthews advocated for treating white people “like s***” and said if people don’t like it, they can leave. See below for South Carolina Republicans statements in response:

Attorney General Alan Wilson:

“Following the release of the video containing an abhorrent viewpoint on race, the time has come for Representative Matthews to resign the House seat she holds and suspend her campaign for US Senate. Holding elective office comes with inherent responsibility. Representative Matthews’s statements and subsequent inaction shows her disdain for that responsibility.”

Congressman Joe Wilson (SC-02):

“The racist comments from Democrat State Rep. Krystle Matthews are reprehensible. She should resign immediately and suspend her campaigns for U.S. Senate/state house. There’s no place for that rhetoric in S.C. Her fellow Democrats also need to answer for her divisive comments.”

Congressman Jeff Duncan (SC-03):

“Socialist State Rep Matthews should immediately resign. As if her failed ideas weren’t bad enough, now she’s been busted boasting her racism. Jaime Harrison, this the best y’all can do? Chuck Schumer, would you welcome her in your caucus?”

Congressman William Timmons (SC-04):

“Treating people differently based on the color of their skin is the very definition of racism. These views do not belong in the S.C. Statehouse, and they certainly do not belong in the U.S. Senate. Krystle Matthews should step aside today.”

Republican nominee for SC-07 and State Representative Russell Fry:

“Krystle Matthews’ radical, racist rant was inappropriate and does not help the cause of democracy in this state or our nation. I strongly encourage her to step aside, resign and apologize.”

S.C. House Majority Leader Davey Hiott:

“Democrat Representative Krystle Matthews first called for drug money to fund her U.S. Senate campaign and welcomed supporters to break campaign finance laws. Now she’s been busted boasting about treating white people in her district “like s***.” This blatant racism is inexcusable. She should resign from public office and end her U.S. Senate campaign immediately. Just imagine if the roles were reversed and it was a member of the Republican House caucus spouting racist rhetoric. And I’d hope to see our Democrat colleagues join us in condemning her behavior too.”

S.C. State Representative Stewart Jones (HD-14):

“Krystle Matthews needs to resign immediately. The recent recordings of her calling for illegal activity and racist statements are not representative of South Carolina, and should not be tolerated especially of anyone in an elected position. ”
