Action Alert – We need your help on the Voter ID Bill!

Starting today, South Carolina Republicans need to make their voices heard on the Voter ID bill, as our best window for passing the bill has begun! Both the House and the Senate have passed versions of the bill already this year, and Republican leaders in both chambers deserve great credit for making this important reform a top priority. Some differences exist in the bills, and the Party has been on record as preferring the House version. On Wednesday, the House sent its version of the bill – a pure Voter ID bill with no add-ons – back to the Senate

SCGOP Chairman Floyd responds to latest statement from Florida leaders on primary date

FLOYD: BREAKING THE RULES LESS IS STILL BREAKING THE RULES Columbia, SC – Friday, April 1, 2011 – South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Karen Floyd today issued the following statement after Florida Republican leaders offered a “compromise” of moving their primary date to late February – a timeframe still in violation of RNC primary calendar rules: “One should not get credit for breaking the rules of our Party ‘less,’” Floyd said in reference to the letter she sent to the RNC yesterday. “The RNC rules are crystal clear – no state outside of the four carve-out states are allowed to

Letter to RNC regarding Florida

Fellow Republican National Committee Members: Taking back the White House in 2012 must be our top priority as Republicans, and as such it is critical that our presidential nominating process must serve to put forward the candidate best able to accomplish that task. It was with great foresight that in 2008 the Republican National Committee conceived the Temporary Delegate Selection Committee, which subsequently worked for nearly two years to put forward a fair and equitable recommendation with regard to states’ roles in the 2012 nominating process. That recommendation was adopted last year by our membership – and, not insignificantly, adopted

Transparency Act on Brink of Becoming Law

House moves Roll Call Voting Bill toward legislative finish line (Columbia, SC) – Today, the SC House of Representatives voted to accept the Senate’s amendments to the House bill (H. 3004 Roll Call Voting) that delivers increased transparency and government accountability by making mandatory Roll Call Voting in both legislative bodies a state law. Today’s action by the House moves this issue closer to becoming law than it has ever been in the past. This progress adds to the House’s strong record of supporting Roll Call Voting – adopting the transparency measure first as a House Rule in 2009, and

S.C. needs real tort reform

Today, I am calling on all Republicans to support a new tort reform bill, the South Carolina Fairness in Civil Justice Act, strong legislation that the House has passed and awaits action in the Senate. In doing that, the General Assembly and Gov. Nikki Haley will go a long way in making our state more business friendly and kick-start our economic recovery. With the passage of a medical tort reform law in 2005, we began down the path of eliminating frivolous lawsuits from our state’s court system and took a bite out of skyrocketing malpractice insurance rates that were forcing

McCall elected to RNC committee

We would like to send out a hearty congratulations to Republican National Committeeman and York County Republican Party Chairman Glenn McCall, who was elected on Thursday to the RNC Resolutions Committee for the Southern Region. Glenn has been at the forefront of building our conservative majority in South Carolina and his expertise that we’ve known about for some time is also getting recognized on the national stage. In announcing the election, RNC chairman Reince Priebus said, “Having served as a member of the Rules Committee, Glenn’s understanding of the nuts and bolts of RNC will be essential as we continue
