Bill filed to help DHHS make cuts

A state Senator has filed a bill giving a state health care agency more flexibility to cut its budget and close a $228 million budget deficit. Senate Majority Leader Harvey Peeler, R-Cherokee, filed a bill suspending budget rules that restrict cuts the Department of Health and Human Services may approve. Peeler’s bill would allow the agency to reduce payments to doctors and hospitals; require use of generic cancer, HIV/AIDS and mental health drugs; reduce chiropractic treatment and reduce fees to dispense prescriptions. SCGOP Chairman Issues Statement on House Voter ID Bill

Columbia, SC – January 26 – South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Karen Floyd today issued the following statement on the state House’s passage of the Voter ID bill: “This commonsense reform will go a long way toward ensuring that South Carolina’s voting process is both secure and accessible,” Floyd said. “In this technological day and age there is simply no logical reason to not add this additional safeguard to our voting process. Secure elections are a fundamental precept of democracy, and I thank Speaker Harrell, Majority Leader Bingham, and bill sponsor Rep. Alan Clemmons for their work on this bill.

House Again Passes Voter ID

(Columbia, SC) – Today, by a vote of 74 to 45, the South Carolina House of Representatives again passed a bill (H. 3003) that will help prevent fraud and secure our state’s election process by incorporating the use of picture identification in voting.
