Our Senate Majority Leader

I’m pleased to announce that Sen. Harvey Peeler of Gaffney was re-elected as senate majority leader on Wednesday afternoon, a tribute to his accomplishments while leading our Republican majority in the Senate. Since first being elected majority leader in 2005, Sen. Peeler has been at the front of passing common sense conservative legislation. We need a good leader for a great caucus, and he has been that for us. In the last election, he stepped up with a significant amount of help and money to the state party and to help make Nikki Haley our governor. During this session especially,

Thank GOP senators who stood for clean voter ID bill

We have spent decades building our Republican Party so that we can put an entire grassroots organization behind our candidates. When elected, we do not expect our Republican officials to agree with us on every single issue, but we do expect them to listen to our voice. For years you have spoke loudly, cohesively and without hesitation on voter ID legislation. Over the past week you made your voice heard and asked that Republican senators concur with the clean House version instead of siding with Senate Democrats. Yesterday, 15 of your 26 Republican senators stood with you. They heard you

AG says only House version of Voter ID is constitutional

Tuesday, an opinion was released from the state Attorney General’s Office that established the opinion of the state that the Senate version of the voter ID bill isn’t constitutional. However, the opinion did say the House version of the legislation is constitutional. This leads us to reiterate the importance of the Senate concurring with the House language and sending it on to Gov. Nikki Haley to be signed into law. Earlier this year, Rep. Alan Clemmons inquired about the constitutional legitimacy of the voter ID bill and a particular “grandfather provision” that allows everyone born before Jan. 2, 1947 to

A Message from Darlington County Chairman Jay Lucas

Dear Fellow Conservatives, Your vote at the ballot box is the ultimate empowerment of your 1st Amendment Right to Free Speech. Your vote is sacred and must be defended. Every voter and every citizen deserves to be protected from an infringement of that right and from instances of fraud compromising the integrity of your ballot in elections. That’s why House Republicans strongly support a protective measure requiring a photo identification to vote in Elections. This week, the House took a critical step in ushering that Voter ID bill into law. Last session, the Voter ID bill passed both the House
